School age children have several options to choose from for elementary education and two options for middle and high school. Pierre is home to Capital university Center for those who want to continue their post secondary education.
The Pierre School District includes four elementary schools, Georgia Morse Middle School and Riggs High School. In addition to K-12 education, the district has a Junior Kindergarten program at Buchanan Elementary and two Early Kindergarten programs at McKinley and Jefferson Elementary Schools.
St. Joseph School is a private school offering elementary education and an after school program.
The Stanley County School District serves 450 students with a Junior Kindergarten program, elementary, middle and high schools in Fort Pierre and Cheyenne Country School outside of town. The Stanley County G.O.L.D program is an afterschool club which helps children with homework and provides activities between the end of the school day and the end of the work day.
The Right Turn is the area’s career learning center which offers GED preparation and testing, the Alternative High School program and a variety of short term training programs.
Capital University Center is the oldest university center in South
Dakota. CUC works with all six of the South Dakota Board of Regent
universities to provide undergraduate and graduate level degree and
certificate programs in both face-to-face and online formats.
